Adults who work with youth at risk of dropping out need to be provided ongoing professional learning opportunities, support, and feedback. At-risk youth whose teachers and mentors receive appropriate professional development and apply their learning to their work with youth are more likely to graduate on time.
Learning Objectives
Learner will identify at least five characteristics of effective professional development.
Learner will explain why it is important that professional development align with school and district improvement plans, teacher performance standards, and evaluation tools.
Learner will create a successful professional development plan that encompasses at least two different kinds of professional development.
Learner will define professional development and explain how the strategy impacts dropout rates.
Learner will provide a cost analysis for their professional development plan.
